Making work on a larger scale! Using cardboard, masking tape and gum tape.
Using a pen knife I cut out petal shapes and manipulated the cardboard to create creases and curves to resemble the organic form of a rose. Using masking tape and gum tape over the top, I stuck the petals together, waiting for the tape to dry each time to make a secure structure and a rose began to form. As a process I documented the stages of development to show the progress throughout the making of the sculpture. Overall I am happy with the way it turned out, showing the essence of a rose flower in full bloom - radiating life. Moving forward I think that I will continue with making cardboard sculptures instead of the other forms of material as this method allows the viewer to see where my hands have worked, giving the piece a personality and character that the other materials just didn't have. |
